When amateurs outperform professionals, there is something wrong with that profession. If ordinary people, with no medical training, could perform surgery in their kitchens with steak knives, and get results that were better than those of surgeons in hospital operating rooms, the whole medical profession would be discredited.

My mother used to tell us when we were kids that we needed to be quieter, that being noisy and active made older folks nervous. As a kid brimming with energy, I didn't see what the problem was. Maybe I'm crazy, but I love a good thunderstorm. Those who live in a crowded city can't possibly appreciate the beauty and wonder of a strong storm. The flashing of lightning in an array of colors, hearing the thunder rumble and roll across the hills, the smell of the air after a storm... |
